Therapists for college students near New York University
Welcome! I’m really glad you’re here. Taking the first step toward seeking support is one of the most important decisions you can make, and it’s one that shows great strength. Life’s challenges can often leave us feeling overwhelmed or stuck, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Together, we can focus on understanding how certain patterns of thinking and behavior may be contributing to your stress, anxiety, or low mood. You will gain insight into how these patterns impact your day-to-day life and learn practical tools to make meaningful changes. My approach is rooted in helping you develop skills that you can apply in real time to manage difficult emotions, reduce distress, and regain a sense of control. The goal is to work collaboratively, identifying specific strategies that empower you to shift your perspective, break negative cycles, and move forward with greater resilience and clarity. If you’re ready to create lasting change and build a life with more balance and peace, I’m here to support you every step of the way.
Therapy with me is a collaborative process where we will work together to understand and address your needs. Through humor and vulnerability, we’ll co-create a judgment-free space for your authentic self to flourish. I utilize a mindfulness-based and relational approach to support clients in creating positive change in their lives. I have successfully supported sexually and gender diverse folx, older folx, neurodivergent folx, and poly/ENM folx dealing with issues of identity, shame, body image, trauma, and interpersonal conflict issues. I approach therapy with an anti-oppressive lens, assisting folx with unlearning internalized messages and thought patterns that prevent growth. I am excited to empower and support you in your journey of self-discovery!
My practice focuses on treating individuals, couples and families who are tackling issues such as: marital & family conflict; stress, anxiety, depression & ADHD; as well as creating healthy boundaries and parenting styles. However, feeling comfortable confiding in your therapist is important. College can break you in quiet ways. Maybe you’re burnt out but still grinding. Anxious but still pretending. You can’t focus, you can’t sleep, you can’t talk about it without feeling like you’re being too much—or not enough. You’re not lazy. You’re not crazy. You’re just overwhelmed, and no one taught you how to deal with it. This is where that changes. Dr. Al-Katib works with college students who are overthinking everything, underperforming despite trying, and getting swallowed by pressure—academic, emotional, social, or all of the above. He helps with ADHD, anxiety, panic, burnout, identity, emotional numbness, and everything else that comes with growing up in chaos. His style is straightforward, respectful, and never sugarcoated. You’ll get strategy, clarity, and support that actually helps you move—not just talk about it. You don’t have to be falling apart to ask for help. But if you are—good. You’ve already taken the first step.
If you have been through traumatic experiences, you may be among the many who continue to carry deep pain. Perhaps you find that you are struggling to live the life you seek or feel like something is missing. The good news is that therapy can help! As a veteran, I have been on my own healing journey. And as a therapist, I have worked with people who have experienced many forms of trauma, including work at a clinic dedicated to serving 9/11 First Responders. Through your courage and commitment plus my warmth and expertise, we can collaborate to help you feel a greater sense of peace in yourself and confidence as you navigate the world. Addressing trauma is my overarching area of emphasis. I am also passionate about working with people with relationship struggles, challenges related to religion or spirituality, and those wanting to explore the meanings of past psychedelic experiences. I offer individual psychotherapy and, under certain conditions, Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy. If you are ready to take the next step, I invite you to reach out to schedule a complimentary phone consultation.
Hey, glad you're here! Being a student is not just about education, is it? We've got lives outside of school, and all those moving parts can get us feeling overwhelmed, going a million miles per hour all the time, burnt out, lost, unmotivated, or even just numb. I work best with clients who are open to feedback, stay consistent in their care, and stay curious to explore different perspectives of their narrative. AKA, all I ask is that you show up to this space that I will prepare for you in which you can be totally you. Without the filters, photoshop, and all the overthinking of what the "right" thing to say is. You don't have to hold onto everything you're going through alone. Let's speak it out and game plan together on a weekly basis. If you feel like you don't even have the language to describe your experience, that's okay! We can build from the ground up. Maybe it'll help to think of it like this: I'm offering therapy like a key to a secret room that no one else has access to but you and I. You can learn and master skills in our therapeutic space, and it won't impact the real world at all because what happens and is heard in here, stays in here. That could look like role-playing a confrontational discussion you might've been avoiding with your roommate or just even saying an insecurity out loud for the first time and reality-checking it. It also just might be practicing how to say 'No' to different people in your life and finally setting boundaries that actually serve you. Then, when you're ready, you take those skills into the real world, and we watch your life change, perhaps slowly, but surely. Therapist shopping can definitely be overwhelming, so I invite you to get to know me through a 10-minute consultation through Zoom. I'll answer any questions, we'll be able to put a face and voice to the name, and you can feel out the overall vibe!

Is it just me, or do a lot of these "bios" start to sound the same after a while? Finding a therapist online is difficult, which I know from personal experience. I am here to provide connections, help facilitate joy and offer a space for you to learn to express your needs and be supported. Our practice together will value your lived experiences as the primary material and will be co-created through empathy and open communication. These systems of mental health are not ones that want us to "feel better", thanks to capitalism and systemic racism. I want to offer a space to fight against that. I have experience working with "high-risk" (read, traumatized and hurt) people living with mental illnesses and difficult experiences. I am comfortable working with what is often labeled as the more "severe" diagnoses and I focus of finding the health in every individual. I am a New York State licensed creative arts therapist and a board certified dance/movement therapist. This helps me in finding creative and expressive ways to connect in therapy spaces for all different types of people. I believe we can all benefit from some extra support lately! Contact me for a free consult to see if working together will be a good fit.
