I have advanced training in psychodynamic approaches as a Fellow at the Boston Psychoanalysis Society and Institute. My style is eclectic and I derive techniques from a comprehensive range of approaches, including solution-focused, narrative, multicultural and expressive models of psychotherapy. I worked for five years at a Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) clinic with individuals experiencing severe, medication-resistant depression, advocating for clients’ needs. I am a clinical psychologist with 15 years’ experience working with clients in a variety of settings and presenting with a wide range of diagnoses and concerns including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, substance abuse, workplace issues, relationship issues, perinatal mood disorders, parent child attachment difficulties, and parenting challenges. I have worked with children, adolescents, college students and adults. one of my practice areas focuses on providing therapy to college and graduate students. While this can be an exciting and inspiring time, there are many factors (identity issues, social anxiety, academic pressures, relationship problems, ect) that can also make it a challenging time to navigate. I use my clinical experience in college settings and in private practice to help college students process feelings and develop coping skills so they can feel more competent and confident. Hi, my name is Jake and I’m a therapist in Brookline. I meet with clients in person and online. I enjoy working with adults of all ages and particularly young adults and people early in their careers who are searching for more meaning, fulfillment and balance in life. Regardless of the main issue that brings individuals into therapy, many of my clients struggle with some type of self-defeating narrative, or what I call, an unworkable story about themselves or about some aspect of their lives. I enjoy helping people uncover these unworkable patterns and develop more effective ways of viewing themselves and their lives. Working with me involves exploring what gets in the way of more openness, awareness and engagement with life, and then practicing increasing these ways of being through exercises (such as mindfulness approaches), use of metaphor to shift perspective and other behavioral moves. Alison B. Newman is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in Lexington, Massachusetts. She enjoys working with students as they navigate forming new relationships and the many challenges of being away from home (sometimes for the first time). She also sees many adults through formative life transitions, including graduation, marriage, pregnancy & parenting, and career changes. Alison provides skill-based support to help young adults manage anxiety around finding their social niche and discover an inner sense of belonging and self-worth. She has deep expertise in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, an evidence-based treatment approach that equips clients with the behavioral skills to cope with uncertainty, regulate mood, and engage more effectively with others in the present moment. Alison received her Bachelor of Arts (A.B.) from Princeton University and her Masters in Social Work from Boston College in Clinical Mental Health. Her extensive experience includes work at McLean Hospital as well as college counseling services at Wellesley College and Boston College. In addition to her clinical work, Alison has received training in yoga for emotional health. She utilizes a team-based approach, providing referrals for nutritional support and medication management as necessary.
